No hard and fast rules on delivering the poem the important thing is to be yourself. It’s your poem so deliver it in your own style.
Tips that will help.
Practise the poem read over it any time you get chance and read it out loud to yourself at least a couple of times. Take your time and pause between verses. With a little practise you will be surprised how easy it becomes. I have written many poems for people who are nervous about public speaking and each one has come back saying how much they enjoyed it.
When you read it live again don’t rush through it and ensure you pause between verses. Allow time for people to laugh when appropriate and don’t be afraid to ad-lib. If you are coming up to a verse that may embarrass someone or it particularly a poignant verse stop and prepare you’re gathered audience for it (i.e. Billy it might be time to leave the room or Valerie you might like this next verse).
I assure you that once you get up and deliver your poem you will want to get up and do it again and again.
If you decide on a poem I will discuss further with you on the delivery etc…
