Shelly Down under
The time is here we all know
Time for our little Shelly to go
We send this rhyme to wish you well
Go out and give those Aussies hell
You saved your cash and paid your fares
Very soon you will be there
Car boots you’ve done and sold your gear
All so you can afford the beer
You leave your job in Mersey ferries
Are you happy? I think quite merry
Tina and Piggy your good mates
You’ll miss a bit you think they’re great
The public you won’t miss a bit
You think they’re nuts, silly old gits
What time’s the next ferry? is often heard
Does the ferry go from upstairs?
What’s the cost? What time’s high tide?
Two pensioner tickets for the ride
All of this you must leave
Where you’re going I don’t believe
Around the world on your trip
First to Thailand you will nip
A different culture a different place
Everywhere a foreign face
You’ll try new things I’m sure of that
You may even get to eat a cat
Party on enjoy the noise
But keep away from the Lady boys
These are men dressed in frocks
But it still hurts when they Bangkok.
Your next stop Singapore
Far away from Daddy’s snore
A Singapore sling will make you merry
You may even meet my mate Terry
Then off to Bali to top up your tan
You may even pick up a man
Make sure he is a millionaire
He can pay and we’ll meet you there
Don’t bother if he has no cash
Get out with you mates on the lash
Enjoy your nights and have good fun
And in the days sleep in the sun
A great time you’ll have I can bet
And you will enjoy a few sunsets
Go for it for all it’s worth
Your next stop soon off to Perth
Australia the place you were born
And ever since your heart’s been torn
You must return and see the sites
To see if this is a place you like
Golden sands and Aussie surf
You’ll enjoy a bit of this in Perth
Watch out for all those Pommy bashers
And remind them all we won the Ashes
Then after Perth off to Geelong
A place you may just belong
I’m sure the family will look after you
And you’ll share a drink or two
Lorraine and Keith will treat you good
And don’t forget with Lorraine you share blood
Enjoy this short time with family down under
Soon you’ll be off for another wander
Next off to Sydney for Christmas on the beach
Bondi I hear is beyond belief
You’ll miss Christmas dinner you love most
But with Zoe and Rachel You’ll have a three bird roast
You may now need to top up your cash
If you want to continue on your path
A little job you need to find
And get back to the daily grind
Bar job, sales anything will do
Just as long as they pay you
So take any job if you are able
But not one dancing on the tables
If you want to get to Fiji and Queensland
You need to earn a couple of grand
So back home here you will be missed
But we’ll be on Skype to send you a kiss
Your Dad and Mum may just enjoy the peace
But we’ll still miss our favourite niece
I’m sure Dad and Mum will miss you too
And on certain days they will feel blue
But to cheer them up they can send you a kiss
And then go out with us on the piss
We’ll think of Shelly who we love the most
Raise a glass and send you a toast
You’ll only be gone for a year
So we might as well get on with the beer
Paul can’t wait for you to go
He’s moving back in did you know
As soon as you are on your way
He’s moving back in the very next day
While you’re away you’ll become Auntie Shelly
Paul and Trish surrounded by nappies smelly
They’ll need you to help clean up the shit
And of course to babysit
So Auntie Shelly come home quick
To help clean up the baby sick
You will be missed by Michael and George
Their favourite cousin you are of course
When they are enjoying themselves at V
I wonder where you will be
Drinking partners you leave at the bar
Especially your mate Bevlar
Jacaranda and the Shipping Forecast
Out on the town having a blast
You’ll miss the fun a laugh and joke
Even more the Brandy and Coke
Enjoy your trip and have a ball
That is the wish of us all
Stick with it through good and bad
After a year you will be glad
If you get down from time to time
Just go and pick up this little rhyme
Sent with love from family and friends
Who want you to enjoy this trip to the end
We’ll think of you while you’re away
And when you come back we’ll shout hooray!!!!
Maybe when we welcome you home
I may just write another poem
It will be great I tell you shell
Life experience and stories to tell
So go out there enjoy your year
You really won’t miss that much here
Maybe just your family back home
But you know you’ll never walk alone
