Shirley is 50
24th September is the day
My pal Shirley is 50 today
A really good pal I do think
With you I like to share a drink
So to your life what do we know?
Born in the 60’s to Billy and Flo
Billy sadly left us for pastures high
Stood in the bookies up in the sky
Flo is still here you think she is great
Not just your mother she’s also your mate
Sisters and brothers Will, Mary, John and Paul
One of five children, you love them all
You’re married to Mark he is your pride
And when we’re out boozing he’ll give us a ride
You must have been good and kept him well fed
As it’s nearly thirty years you have been wed
Your sons Marc and John now both big lads
Sometimes a pain but didn’t turn out bad
Marc married to Emma your daughter in law
John with girlfriend Jodie live in, they know the score
Granddaughters Issie and Sophia, your little girls
You love them so much they are your world
Buxom barmaid was one of your jobs
One you enjoyed and earned a few bob
Worked in the Long View club for many a year
You had some good laughs and served a few beers
When working in bars you found something you like
Singing karaoke and hogging the mike
The voice of an angel sent from above
Especially when singing ‘Old Devil Called Love’
Mentioning music you once played the cello
A funny instrument an unusual fellow
People would laugh at you on the bus
But you didn’t mind the cello causing a fuss
So then to your teaching you arrived late
Teacher at 40 you think it is great
Roby Park is where you reside
A great teacher you are that can’t be denied
A picture of you that always tickles me
Is the one where you look like Rusty Lee
Copies were put all over the school
Great Roby Park days acting the fool
Saint or a sinner we often ask
But at least you confess when going to mass
St Columba’s Church on Sunday without fail
Even after a late night on the ale
Part of the flock well in with the priest
Singing your hymns and practising beliefs
Keep in with your gods you know it’s a winner
You don’t want to be known as Shirley the sinner
You like a night out and having a good time
Usually with a few pints of lager and lime
Great company you are and everyone you meet
You seem to know or they lived in your street
Well known in Huyton is that down to a crime?
No, it’s because you know how to have a good time
One thing I must mention before we go on
Is you big brown parka you know the one
Trip to Granada in the burning heat
You wore it all day which was quite a feat
So Shirley happy 50th birthday to you
Enjoy yourself with a drink or two
You are my Pal I think you’re great
And now you are 50 you are my VERY OLD mate
Love from Jan
