O’Malley Irish Christmas
Christmas day all gathered here
To celebrate with wine and beer
Special people one and all
Lets all relax and have a ball
The host Maura my lovely Mam
Has cooked the dinner as only she can
Soup for starters we’re not posh
We just enjoy a good old nosh
What’s for mains I hear you shout
Of course turkey and ham with a big bowl of sprouts
All the trimmings with roast spuds
Bloody hell this dinner sounds good
And after this if you’re not stifled
A nice big gateaux and a bowl of trifle
So thank you Mam for what you’ve prepared
No one will complain we’re all too scared
A couple more mentions for family present
I’ll try to keep the comments pleasant
Welcome to Paula and brother Billy
Don’t drink too much please nothing silly
Anne Marie a welcome to you
Please enjoy a wine or two
If you have too many everybody knows
You end up in bed in all your clothes
To Alex your daughter and Sean your son
This day’s for you enjoy the fun
To have lovely children there’s nothing greater
They can even do the dishes later
My daughter Katie is also here
She’ll help us finish off the beer
At Irish coffee she thinks she’s the best
but I’m sure Mam could put her to the test
So to Ole, my little grandson
I hope he’s also enjoying the fun
He’s only little but oh so loud
Of my grandson I’m so proud
A mention too for little me
The quiet one in the family
A perfect lady all the time
I hardly touch a glass of wine
Now the part we’re we may shed a tear
So all raise a glass and lets here your cheer
We send to Dad a Christmas wish
Always in our hearts and always missed
So a toast to Dad and to all gathered here
Merry Christmas and happy New Year
Let’s finish this poem if I may be so bold
Before this bloody dinner gets cold.
A John Deane production December 2011.
